The Skippack Township Board of Supervisors voted to award Barry J. Hoffman, Co., Inc. the contract to build the township’s emergency generator at a cost of $92,335.

The Allentown-based company provided the lowest bid; the highest came in at $152,256 from Henkels and McCoy, of Blue Bell, according to PennBid.

According to Skippack Township Manager Ted Locker, Barry J. Hoffman. Co., Inc., also bid an option to install a generator that would reduce the machine's noise 3.1 decibels and increase the cost by $1,900. The board voted against the increase.

The installation of this generator, which will be placed just outside of the meeting room, will allow the Skippack Township Building to perform as an Emergency Operations Center in the event of an emergency.

According to Locker, this will be a place for State Police, fire, ambulance, public work, and other safety officials to work in the area, in the event of an emergency.

“Emergency management has become a bigger issue globally, especially considering some of the storms we’ve had over the past few years,” said Locker.
