Core prompt: Japanese automaker Nissan Motor is recalling 7,842 Infiniti JX35 crossover vehicles from the 2013 model year to check for defective fuel

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor is recalling 7,842 Infiniti JX35 crossover vehicles from the 2013 model year to check for defective fuel gauges.

The automaker said that a faulty gauge in the new luxury crossover could indicate a higher fuel level than actually exists.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a filing that the faulty gauge could cause the JX35 to run out of fuel unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

In July 2012, the NHTSA had opened a defect investigation into the JX35 on possible improper application of the emergency brake.

Nissan said the fuel transfer tube could be misrouted inside the fuel tank on some vehicles manufactured from 15 February 2012 to 22 June 2012.

The automaker added that the problem had beed corrected and it had notified US dealers of the fuel-gauge issue on 13 August 2012.

In early September 2012, Nissan will start sending notices to affected consumers.
