UK based automotive firm GKN has invested over GBP12m in its Birmingham and Telford facilities.

In Birmingham, GKN Driveline supports UK-based automotive firms that include Jaguar Land Rover, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Bentley and Lotus.

The facility also supplies automotive systems to Renault, Fiat, Volvo and Dacia and exports to Japan, South Africa, US, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Romania and Turkey.

In Shropshire, GKN Land Systems is investing in new manufacturing equipment to manufacture structural components for the new Range Rover Sport.

GKN chief executive Nigel Stein said that the UK is proving itself to be a strong automotive performer with a high proportion of exports.

"The success of our customers and their demand for GKN technology has meant we are now investing to increase capacity," Stein said.

"This investment will help ensure the UK automotive sector continues to grow."
